Do you know the History Of Virtual Reality(VR)?
When we talk about the history of virtual reality (VR)there are a few places we could start. We could start with things that were not really VR, but clearly preceded the concept. We could look at things that are VR, but no one had invented the term yet or we could discuss virtual reality past the point where the term entered our lexicon. In this article we’ll be doing all three of these things.
Early attempts at VR
If we focus more strictly on the scope of VR as a means of creating the illusion that we are present somewhere we are not, then the earliest attempt at VR is surely the 360-degree murals (or panoramic paintings) from the nineteenth century. These paintings were intended to fill the viewer’s entire field of vision, making them feel present at some historical event or scene.
Battle of Borodino, 1812
Stereoscopic photos and viewers that are held up to the face also date from the 19th century, which is probably quite a bit older than most people would intuit.
Over time mankind has been slowly but surely creating ever richer ways to stimulate our senses. Things really began to take off in the 20th century, with advent of electronics and computer technology. ( to be continued )
About the VR in the 20th Century , we will tell you in next post. so stay tuned!
